June 24, 2016. It’s San Juan Day! But it also marks the 1st Foundation day of Leon A. Garcia Sr. Elementary School through the initiative of school’s principal, Mrs. Donna A. Sollano.

The LGES started way back 1977 but there was no exact date of its Foundation Day (Though it has been a practice that the school would join in the community fiesta celebration).

Fiesta Mass
A mass was held in the morning which was participated by the San Juan Village community and school community. Then, a parade was held where the LGES band played festive music. The PTA officers were around during the parade to show their unified support to the 1st Foundation Day of the school. Of course, all pupils were in attendance together with their advisers.

LEON GARCIA SR. ES brings back Bayanihan

Time worth spent. Group of boys spent their time painting the roof than doing leisure in preparation for the school opening.

Last June 4, 2016, the Leon A. Garcia Sr. Elementary School culminated the Brigada Eskwela 2016. The Brigada Eskwela was a week-long activity among the public schools which is also known as the National School Maintenance Week. The theme for this year’s Brigada Eskwela was “Tayo Para sa Paaralang Ligtas, Maayos at Handa, mula Kindergarten hanggang Senior High School.”

Crime busters are also Dust Busters. Talomo Police Officers came over to volunteer for the Brigada Eskwela 2016.
During the 5-days activity, a quite number of assistance came to Leon Garcia Sr. ES. Such as most of the parents help in the repainting of school buildings, others did the gardening. Some men volunteered to repaint the roof and fixed broken desks and chairs. Even school children came to do simple chores.
A Purok Leader from Barangay Talomo came over together with her constituents to participate in the cleaning and cutting of weeds outside the school fence.

Mechanical Engineers do care. Mrs. Fe A. Angayan, wife of  PSME Chapter President donated cleaning materials during the Brigada Eskwela.
There were private individuals or organizations who (external stakeholders) extended their generosity through donations. They donated paints, painting and cleaning materials. Others provided snacks and lunch for the volunteers.

Principal of all trades. Mrs. Donna A. Sollano, school principal temporarily stopped doing her administrative job for a painting job.

Mrs. Donna A. Sollano, principal of Leon Garcia Sr. ES was so grateful for the positive turn-outs of the Brigada Eskwela 2016. She expressed, “The spirit of Bayanihan is still present among us, Filipinos. I am glad that the parents, teachers, community and other stakeholders moved together; shared their time, efforts and resources to prepare the school for the opening. The success of this event is a collaborative effort which our school children should be thankful of.
The awarding ceremony was held at the end of the event which was participated by parents, teachers and other stakeholders. Certificates were given to those who have rendered services and extended assistance.
